Our History

Prior to the early 1900's, there was only one Mountain Top Baptist Church in Winston, GA. In 1905, members working in a spirit of unity and sincerity expressed a desire to physically relocate to become more accessible. When the concern was initially placed before the congregation, the vote was unanimous in favor of the move. Subsequently, a location committee was selected and plans began for the new House of Worship.
This committee, according to minutes taken on August 26, 1906, with Mr. G.W. Dorset serving as moderator and Mr. J.L. Sparks as secretary, consisted of eleven members. As the dream came closer to reality, some hearts and minds changed and a desire to remain at the present location was expressed. This situation, after much prayer and deliberation, was resolved by "Mountain Top" becoming Old Mt Top and the new location being New Mt. Top Baptist Church.
The building of New Mountain Top Baptist Church commenced iwth Rev. Tobe B. McClarty as the contractor with the help of dedicated members, along with brick masons. We previously used our original site (which we refer to as The Chapel) for an 8AM service but currently use it for weddings and other events requiring a smaller spiritual venue.
Since the dream was realized in 1905, New Mountain Top has been blessed to install 12 pastors, including our beloved Rev. Forrest J. Saffo who faithfully served as our paster for 41 years and then Pastor Emeritus until his passing in 2022. Our current pastor, Bishop A.R. Litman, has served as our pastor since 2006. Under his teachings, we have truly become a "Growing Church for Growing People". Bishop Litman continues to build on the visions and dreams of our church's founders to make New Mountain Top Baptist Church more accessible to the surrounding community and the people within the church. Our vision empowers members to seek and use their spiritual gifts to make New Mountain Top a pillar of the broader community.
